Kirk Ireton Polyphony and Puddings 22/06/2011

KI 2Having sampled the delights of the Kirk Ireton sweets and puddings before, the Ashbourne Singers were only too delighted to accept another invitation to sing during Wakes Week in their church. They gave a glimpse of the programme to be performed in their summer concert, under the leadership of Linda Perry Smith and accompanied on the keyboard by Steve Duckworth, beginning with Top of the world. Greensleeves, a 16th century English song, Dark Island and Loch Lomond from Scotland and Danny Boy from Ireland took the audience on a trip around the UK. From Argentina (Don’t cry for me) and California (dreamin’) the choir went to Australia with Waltzin’ Matilda and over to Africa with two traditional chants. Ruth Brailsford and Liz Grime led the audience in ABBA’s Thank you for the music! before the choir sang a medley from Les Miserables, a tribute to France. They closed with a rousing Rule Britannia! assisted by a fully fed, happy audience!
