The Ashbourne Singers is a community choir that exists for the benefit of members of the public with an interest in singing and who wish to do so in a friendly group. It is open to all over the age of 18 years. We meet every Tuesday from 7.45 – 9.15 pm in either St John’s Church, Buxton Hill, Ashbourne or St Oswald’s Church Hall. We generally meet during school term times. Next term starts Tuesday 14th September 2010. There are no auditions and all abilities are welcome but singers must be able to hold a tune. If you are unsure what your voice type is, you can consult with Linda after rehearsal. It does help if you can read a little music as we do use sheet music for our rehearsals and concerts, but this is not essential. As a versatile musician, Linda encourages you to experiment with different styles of music and is open to suggestions as to what you might like to sing. What is involved in being a member? New members can join the choir during the first two weeks of each term - this gives potential new members three opportunities to join. We would like members to make every effort to attend rehearsals but appreciate that family or other commitments sometimes get in the way. Currently, the fee per term is £30.00 which is paid on the first week of the term. This ensures we can cover our costs and purchase music. However, for new members the first week is always free so you can decide whether or not you would like to come back. There is also a one-off £10 music deposit which is returnable if you leave the choir. As well as rehearsals, public and private performances; we also hold social events. If you would like to chat to Linda (Musical Director) or Lesley (Secretary) in more detail please feel free to contact them.
