Joining the Adult Choir
Ashbourne Singers is a community choir open to anyone over the age of 18 with an interest in singing. There are no auditions, all abilities are welcome but you must be able to hold a tune.
We sing mainly in four part harmony, Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass. If you are unsure what your voice type is, you can discuss which part would suit you best by talking to Steve Duckworth after rehearsals.
The music we sing is varied and wide ranging from choral works to interpretations of contemporary music. Individuals are given to opportunity to perform solos and take part in small groups.
The Singers are a friendly group which welcomes and helps new members. We meet every Tuesday from 7.30– 9.00 pm in St John’s Church, Ashbourne or the Methodist Church, Ashbourne during school term times.
What is involved in being a member?
Enrolment for each term takes place in the first three weeks of each term. There are three terms a year; September, January and after Easter. A commitment to regularly attend rehearsals is required to ensure that our concerts are of a high standard.
The fee per term is £45.00 which is paid on the first week of each term. Fees are used to pay our Musical Director, accompanists, hall rentals and purchase music.
New members can have a taster; the first week is always free so you can decide whether or not you would like to come back. There is a one-off £20 music deposit which is returnable if you leave the choir.
The Singers encourage the social side of being part of the choir by holding events such as a cabaret evening. We also have a close relationship with the music conservatoire in the town of Soisy-sur-Seine; the Singers have performed in the town on a number of occasions. The orchestra from the conservatoire has also visited Ashbourne to perform with the Singers.
